Uxbridge, Ontario - GRASS FIRE SEASON

Uxbridge, Ontario - GRASS FIRE SEASON

Burn Permits are Required

Now that the snow is all gone and the temperature is rising the dried out grass and brush is once more a potential hazard.

While most residents are aware of the requirement to obtain burn permits some new residents may not be.

Uxbridge requires burn permits for all controlled burning, permits can be obtained from the town offices or the fire hall on Bascomb St. Even after receiving a permit you need to phone the 908-852-9038 to ensure you are able to burn on any given day.

Karthy:

I think we only have commercial burn permits here and the fire department has to be involved.  I could just see someone using it to have bonfire!   Glad it works for your area!

Kathy - Your post raises issues that I have never thought of and have never looked into.  I'm sure that most urbanites are not familiar with burn permits.

hi Kathy,

I remember many years ago when my former H and I bought a 100 acre farm, he decided to burn a giant field that was about 500 feet away from the house and just 100 feet away from the barn. He rounded up a bunch of friends, got the permit, and away they went.

The wind picked up and all of a sudden the fire was burning out of control and straight for the barn and house....they yelled 'Call the fire dept'.....they were able to keep it at bay away from the house and barn until the fire dept got there to put it out.  It was soooooooo scary!

Jane - every area has different rules and they should be checked before starting a burn

Marc - there is a lot about buying country properties or even urban properties outside of the GTA that only a local agent knows. You need a local agent on your side when buying anywhere.
